How would you persuade kids and teens to read?
I want to start a project on my community, where reading is emphasized.
Dealing with kids and teenagers, what would you tell them to catch their attention so they can start to read more books and spend less time stuck to their electronic devices?
Lol well since i am somewhat a teenager.. I can help-ish. What makes me want to read is if its a really good book, and people usually dont emphazise what a book is about like if u went to the library and asked the librarian if this is a good book, usually shed just tell u whats on the back, but normally ppl dont realize that the book usually doesnt get good until around page 50 or so. And people read like the first page and their like "this is stupid im done." so maybe to get them to read books you can tell them whats in the middle and how good it really is if you want them to read a specific book.
If you want kids to get out and play, make something fun to do! Usually all you can do outside is.. What.. Go on a swing? Kick a rock? Throw a ball? Thats not very intiresting once you hit age 9. (im a girl so i dont speak for boys lol) so get a trampoline, build a zipline on the other end. To be honest playing on an ipod or laptop orwhatever is a lot funner then kicking a little ball outside. make something fun to do! If your expecting kids to go outside, idk what you expect cause there really is nothing if you ask me. I mean, i know there is a lot you can do but if they kid is like sitting inside being bored and u tell them to go outside when all they have is a swing and a ball and theyre like 13, unless they have a friend it isnt fun. Sorry if this was really long!
Find out what kind of things they like, if they are athletic, then get them a book by Mike Lupica, if they enjoy history, then get them a historical fiction book like Out of the Dust or Fever 1793, do some research on famous authors and match a few genres to the person. Make sure that they genres have some differences because you want to have them open to new things. Hope this helped!!!
Ban them from their consoles/computers for some period of time and say read everyday for some Days/Weeks/Months And You Cna get your console back but you have to read every time i tell you to.

take a vote on what genre they might to work on
finds out what they like and are interested in and get them a book about thatsubject hopefully this helps!
