No time of the year is good for a car accident, but during the Christmas season, it is tragic to have to bury a loved one because of an avoidable automobile accident. Sadly, an automobile accident at the intersection of McMullen Booth and Curlew roads in Palm Harbor this morning has caused the family of a Holiday man to have to do just that.
According to the ClearwaterPatch, a Clearwater man in a BMW ran a red light at the intersection of Curlew and McMullen Booth roads, killing a 54-year-old Holiday man in a pickup truck. The 54-year-old victim, who has not yet been identified, was headed eastbound on Curlew shortly after 5:30 a.m. when a BMW failed to stop for the red light on McMullen Booth and hit the pickup truck's passenger side, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, investigators said. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the BMW was taken to St. Joseph Hospital with serious injuries. After initial impact, the vehicles collided with a third vehicle.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the man who was killed. Too many families have to suffer because of avoidable automobile collisions. As you approach the yellow light today, think about how this Holiday man's family is going to have to celebrate the holidays and then stop safely. The extra minutes at the light could save your life.
