Murders and shooting deaths are an unfamiliar occurrence in Slaton. The town of 6,121 is haunted by murder only once a decade, at most, the city?s Mayor said and Avalanche-Journal archives show. And they?re certainly unwelcome every time. But Slaton residents gathered early Saturday to mourn the second violent death in their town in less than a month and just after the still-recovering victims from last month?s deadly shooting returned home. read more ...
